One of my favourite kid books was by Kevin Henkes about a mouse who was bullied about her name, Chrysanthemum. "It was too long, it was too unique"—appropriate descriptions for the flower of November. There are so many varieties of a chrysanthemum that can look completely different from one another. From round petals to sharper more pronounced ones, they add a pop of colour and femininity to any arrangement.
They are a flower of resilience and endurance, and depending on where you are in the world they can carry many significant ritualistic purposes. You’ll always be able to notice when “mums” are in season because their colours pop out against the fading hues of autumn.
